Varanus mertensi
The Mertens' Water Monitor is an Australian monitor lizard that can grow up to be about 1 meter long. Their name is sometimes misspelled as "Merten's Water Monitor."

Food choices Edit

Mertens' Water Monitors eat fish, frogs, terrestrial vertebrates, insects, and carrion.

Reproduction Edit

Egg-laying usually takes place in the dry season, and the eggs layed at that time will hatch on the next wet season, hatching in 200-300 days after the laying. The eggs are put into a burrow, and the hatchlings will be able to get in the water and swim immediately after birth.
