A black tree monitor is a monitor lizard that can grow up to be 90-120 centimeters long. They can be found in the Aru Islands off New Guinea. The young ones have bright yellow-green dots most noticeable on their backs, but lose these dots compeletely when reaching maturity. They are found in trees, and their long tails help them keep balance in the trees.

Black tree monitors eat insects, smaller lizards, small mammals, scorpions, eggs, and nestlings.
